Do ducks make good pets?

i was thinking about buying some hatching eggs and keeping them from birth if i did this would they see me as there parent?

i have done lots of research --- from the duck clubs and things but of course they think they are good pets - thats why they joined the club and i need some honest answers from people who have hatched and kept ducks....

Thanks

  1. I didn't hatch mine but got them at 10 days old. They might have a bond with you if you hatch them yourself. You need an incubator and a good quality one can be expensive. They are very messy so you wouldn't be able to keep them indoors as they can't be trained and when eating spatter food everywhere. I kept mine indoors for the first two weeks and then put them outside. You need to live in the countryside and have a large secure pen, a place you can lock them into at night and a pond or paddling pool for them to swim in. When they start swimming at the begginning they shouls have a shallow end as baby ducks tire and drown easily.

  2. well the good thing about hating ducks as eggs is that the first thing they see they think is their mother so if they see you first they will think of you as their mother also the down side is you have to feed baby birds every 3 hours. They may actually be easier pets than dogs because you never have to take them for walks also if you raise them from eggs they shouldn't fly away i think because they have never been taught. the only problem is they would have to be an outside pet because i don't think they can be potty trained. my neighbors have two ducks but only one can fly but it never flys away from its home but it does walk into our yard and follow us around sometimes. Their cute i think. I think they are a good pet as long as you are willing to coment to their every need.

    bye!

  4. Yes, ducks make great pets. I have a few myself.  but they take ALOT of care and attention for them to really trust you. You must work and spend at least an hour everyday with it. Pet it, teach it to eat from your hand and all sorts of other tricks. Good luck with your ducklings!

  5. They're fine if you live on a farm.

Otherwise, please select another type of animal that is more meant as a pet.
