Do early pregnancy test really work?

Question

has anyone on here used an "early pregnancy" test early? I am suppose to get my period on sunday, but I do not want to wait to find out, but I also don't want to waste the money if it isn't goin to give me a true answer......what do you think?????

I would wait until you have missed your period,  i tested before my period was due I did get a very very faint line,  i then went to the doctor and had a blood test,  it came up positive but very low HCG level,  I have since lost the baby.  So i suggest waiting because sometimes knowing too early and then losing it can be just as hard as not knowing.

I am going through exactly what you are going through.  I am due for my period this Saturday, I simply couldn't wait any longer and took a pregancy test this Monday morning and it was negative. I have so many symptoms of early pregnancy and just "feel pregnant" although I didn't feel these symptoms so early with my first son.

Are you feeling any symptoms? My advice is to buy a two-pack early results pregancy test, like First Response Early Results which can detect the pregnancy hormone up to 5 days before your missed period. Yes Honey I did, and they didn't work that well, I had to wait longer and go and buy more, than one said yes, the other said no.  So I went to the Doctors and had a blood test.

by all means wait it out first. in the past i have wasted money on test after test. if you don't see AF on sunday then test early monday morning.let us know what the outcome is.

THey can work if your hCG levels are high enough in your urine. But testing that early leaves alot of room for false negatives. Its best to wait until you are a few days late for your period.

Every day "early" that you use an HPT, you increase the odds of getting a false negative.

But if you want to avoid wasting money, then you should NEVER use an HPT before your period is at least one day late.  The reason is because even if you've done everything right, you only have at best a 25% chance of getting pregnant in any given month.  Since most months you are going to get a BFN, you might as well give AF at least one shot at giving you a BFN for free.

I honestly wouldn't take one until you miss a period. I'm 8 days late and said Forget it, I made an appointment.. I took one about 2 days before I was supposed to start...it was (-)  Actually, I took about 1000 lol... I would just wait.. Good luck!

Well, for both of my pregnancies I used the First Response (5 days before your missed period).  It worked perfectly for me... detected them both 5 days before my period was supposed to come.  Plus... you get 2 in a pack!  Just to warn you... it will NOT tell you if it's 6 days before your period!  Or at least me anyway!  Just remember if you use this test... a line is a line regardless of how faint!  With my second pregnancy the line was soooo faint and took like 8 minutes to even show up.  I thought I was just seeing a line 'cause we were trying to get pregnant!  2 days later I took the other one in the pack and it was a tad bit darker but still faint!  I'm 22 weeks pregnant with a girl!  A line's a line!  I wish you the best of luck hun!
