I am thinking of switching to an ecological cleaning regime but I have a few queries. Do these products work? I mean, do they kill the germs and bacteria? Really new to this so any tips would be great.

  1. many  , probably most, do.

but you should know that steam cleaning with one of the small hand steamers works great on almost everything has even less impact on the environment that green chemicals

  2. I know the original brand EcoVer works better than some standard ranges. they simply replace eco damaging phosphates and other ingredients with environment neutral but fully working ones.

its worth noting major brands are greening their own products to match these.

with current unilever brands almost as green but half-the price I'm not sure their green credentials are worth the extra.

The BIG thing is chlorine free bleach which is not normally available and that works better than chlorine based bleaches without the fumes. That IS worth it !

  3. Steam cleaning is awesome, however lemon juice, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda are better than most chemicals and green products.  Just type in alternative eco friendly cleaning on your search bar - a plethora of sites with top tips appear.

    Happy cleaning

  4. I believe that lots of them do work but I stick to the old fashioned remedies.

    Soda Crystals

    Borax

    White Vinegar

    Bicarbonate of Soda.

All of them are a fraction of the price of the fancy sprays and powders around these days.

Soda Crystals can remove burnt on food stains, is great for removing grease, blood, ink, tea and coffee stains from clothes before washing. You can make up a solution of it for pouring down sinks and toilet bowls to eliminate smells and it will clear a blocked sink.

White Vinegar is great for cleaning mirrors, fill your kettle to just above the element with white vinegar and bring to the boil then leave to cool for getting rid of limescale.

  5. There are a lot of scams out there so be careful but yeah, some do work others are just from people who are happy to take your money away.

  6. idk, ive never really been comfortable using them, when i do, i always add just a little bit of bleach...but just a little, dont go mixing chemicals, especially bleach and amonia!!!

  7. I personally never been happy with them

  8. The chemical industry has developed a number of products that work in nearly any environment, not only to clean and sanitize but to smell nice and not leave a residue.  When you replace these with less developed products you need to be specific on what you want the product to do.  You may need more than one "green" product to do the same job done with one developed product.  Also a product that works well in some places may not work well in others.  There are few national brands of universal green cleaning products.  You will need to do some trial and error testing on your own.  Consumers Report does some testing of "green" products, you may want to check them out.
