Do ecosystems evolve?

i know they dont evolve naturally, but the with the help of abiotic and biotic factors do they evolve? or do the biiotic and abiotic factors evolve? im really confused!

  1. They do evolve, in the sense that they gradually and incrementally change.  Abiotic factors include changing climate (caused by changes in the Earth's axial tilt, for example), changes to terrain caused by erosion and plate tectonics, etc.  Biotic factors of course include the evolution of individual species that make up the ecosystem, as well as changing population sizes of those species.

    This is not however the same as 'evolution' as it is applied to living organisms, which is more properly referred to as 'natural selection'.  


  2. Everything evolves.  Biotic (living) factors evolve based on resources (nutrients), Abiotic (nonliving) factors change because earth's climate is always fluctuating.  So the answer to your question is yes ecosystems evolve NATURALLY, these changes are a result of biotic and abiotic factors
