Do electric cars, motorcycles, or trucks have gears?

I want to get an electric motorcycle and in this video i cant hear any shifting... Does it shift any or have gears.... ?

Most electric vehicles utilize a power source..usually a battery and a potentiometer to allow a variable amount of energy to the electric motor depending on its potition.

Its the electrical equivalent to a gas pedal.

I do not think they typically do, but I have an electrically-assisted bicycle that has gears. The motor is in the crank (the part the peddles attach to). As I peddle, the motor amplifies the light force I apply. I shift gears on it like any other bicycle.

generally electric motors have a very wide torque curve so don't need to change gear - ie they will accellerate from 0rpm to max with the same pulling power.

The Tesla http://www.teslamotors.com only has one gear, but to improve the range they are changing to a 2 speed gearbox for the mark 2 (and retrofitting the mk 1's)
