Do electric heat pump systems keep your house warm?

I will be changing from an oil-based heating system, which is soooooooooooooooo expensive, to heat pump, is this a good idea?

  1. It really depends on where you live, the type of climate etc.  Heat pumps become less efficient in very cold areas.  They do great here in the south, our winter temps will usually get down to around 20 at the lowest, so they are able to maintain a fairly comfortable temperature.  And our electric bill in winter probably runs around $200 a month.  I've heard some people with $400 to $600 bills with gas so I don't complain a bit.
