Do electrical items have a 'use by' date?

I have a brush air styler (hairdryer) never used, still in original packaging and stored in a cupboard for five years . Will it still work properly, or does anything seize up or stop working if never used?

  1. Your question could tap into the world wide conspiracy theory that manufacturers build a 'life' into their products so that they will fail after a given time and force you to buy a new one.

Given that the electrics in a hair dryer are pretty basic and you have kept yours in pretty much ideal conditions, I doubt if any corrosion will have done its bad work and it will work fine for someone else for a good while to come.

    Good luck with your sale.

  2. Good question.

Unlike the complete idiot above Maximumwhatever  ('food' is ALIVE? Idiot  ) I do know a little about electronics.

Yes, if an electrical component is not used it can become corrupt, similar to a battery left in place develops leakage. There is every chance this hairdryer, if switched on,  will work for a little while then quickly overheat and burn out.

  3. As it happens electrical items DO have a shelf life, its normally just above 5 years, but i think that you will be OK on this particular item

  4. There's no expiration date, go ahead and use it.

If it's allowed to sit for TOO long, it might have some problems.  Don't worry, though.  We're talking several DECADES, not several years.  Enjoy your air styler.

  5. It might work so you can keep it, or if you want to sell it just make sure you put in the description that it is 5 years old and never used.

  6. All Electrical Appliances should come with at least a 1year Warranty. If you have never used yours and the plug is still conforming to your States Safety, there should be no problem.

  7. no they don't they tend to get superseded by other models but if your hairdryer has been keep dry it should work perfect

  8. It'll be right. Just don't use it in the shower.

  9. dont worry it will be fine plug it in and have fun.
