Question:

Do employers check....and how..?

Okay...I've heard 'getting involved' in college really helps with getting a good job...but do the employers even go through the trouble to call & confirm all these accomplishments and extra curricular activities? Like for example...say I list I was the president of a team, participated actively with some association, received several distinguishable awards, was in student government etc. etc. etc...Will they really call the university to confirm all this? Do they really have the time to do all that...and if not, cant we just..lie on our resumes (a bit)?

I'm not in any type of situation like this (only a freshman in college) but I was just wondering...so yeah...thanks for all answers!

  1. Employers have a right to ask for proof on anything you listed on your resume so be prepared to present the necessary credentials.  And they can ask for them at *any* time during your employment, not just when you are in the hiring process. Just think of it that way so you know not to lie.

  2. Probably not- but if they find out you lied that could be grounds to get fired! Than again that is more or less common with if you are lying about a felony not personal achievements.

  3. yeah um, employers couldn't care less about what curricular activities you were in during college.  And unless you are applying for a federal job, like with social security office, they also don't care what your grades were.  All they care is that you were motivated enough to finish all the requirements to get your diploma.

  4. Depends on where you're applying. Pizza Hut - no. A law firm - Yes. It also depends on what the accomplishments are. If they're pretty specific (president or treasurer of something or whatever) than I'd say it's more likely.

  5. They dont check your accomplishments with 'involvement' activities.  If you are selected and get to an interview, be sure to expect questions on those.  If you bluff, believe me, it will be quite plain !  ... and that would be end of story for your application.

Dont lie on your resume !

  6. LOL, they probably don't, but I wouldn't take the chance...it's better to just be honest.
