Do employers have to pay salary employees severance pay if they are fired?

(On the basis of Louisiana and/or Federal Laws) How about if you fire them 2 days before cut day, are you still required to pay them their entire salary or can you just pay them 8 out of 10 days?

  1. They only have to pay you for the time you worked, but usually salaried employees are paid thru the end of the payperiod.  It's just easier for payroll to do it that way.  

    As far as severance pay that depends on the employer, they are not required to pay severance pay especially to a employee they had to fire.  But sometimes they do if they lay them off.
