Do equip cards stay active if the selected monster switches control?

yes. equip cards always stay equipped unless the equipped monster is removed from the field or flipped face-down

yes they do but if they are destroyed they usually return back to your hand or deck.

Yes, because that card is specifically designated as the target as long at it's on the field.

If not, SNATCH STEAL would cause an infinite loop or not be playable, because Snatch Steal would take the opponent's monster, and than become inactive and give it back, than take it again, than give it back, etc.
