I have 2 computers linked up with an ethernet adapter which i purchased some time ago. I went into my local computer store but was shocked to realise that the brand that i have relied upon is now no longer in stock or sold. I have now bought a different brand when the clerk explained that it would work perfectly

Is this true? i want to make sure that i haven't bought a dud item

  1. Yes it's true, the brand of the adapter doesn't matter.  They all work the same.

  2. Think of it as buying a TV. Some TVs have better screens, nicer layouts, less buttons, more buttons, less cables or more cables. But what is the point of the TV - to show you stuff. In this respect, they're pretty much all the same - they all show you stuff.

The network adapter is the same when you think of it this way. Some will run at 10mbps, some at 100 and some at 1000 and some at 10/100/1000 - but that is simply buttons, layouts and cables. The essential job is to transport data. they all do that.

You're quite safe. The only problem you could expect potential, is maybe your PC doesn't have enough PCI slots to fit a network cable, or maybe the hardware is faulty - anything can happen, but it's not because the "make/model" is different to what you have.

  3. yes it would perfectly like the clerk said.
