Hey...Im 6'3 165lbs and can dunk moderatly easy...I cant do any tricks thou besides a 360 really. Now, I always had great hops, but I recently did AA3 which helped my jump out alot...however Im still looking to increase it even more and I was wondering if weightlifting would do the trick. I never squat, do lunges, jump rope or anything of the sort...I usually just go outside and practice dunking, so I was wondering if I started to squat and do lunges and the other weightlifting exercises for your vertical, would I see an increase in my vertical? Thanks.

  1. Yes, squats, lunges and other weightlifting exercises are great to increase your strength in your legs and core which are essential to being able to propel you further itno the air. You also need to develop your explosive power though to take full advantage of this extra strength. This article might explain more fully:

  2. Jump, jump, jump, jump as much as you can and keep trying to jump higher.

  3. try jumping with weights on your legs

it will increase the muscle in your calves which is where most of the power comes from when you dunk

raise your hoop if its too easy and just keep trying harder and working harder

  4. yes squats will absolutely help your vertical. Plyometric drills like the ones in air alert are meant to help you maximize the percentage of your strength you can utilize in a jump. If you maintain that percentage and increase the total strength you have, the force in your jump will go up. There's a better explanation here http://verticalleaptraining.blogspot.com
