Question:

Do exterior doors come standard in 28" wide?

the door is 28". A contractor knocked out a space in the wall and put the door in for me about 15 yrs ago. There was limited room because of a window. I now believe he may have cut down a larger door in order to fit the space. I couldn't find 28" standard but I'm not expert in searching. Thanks for your help. I'll now look into having one custom made.

  1. 28" is not a standard width.  Common sizes are 36" and 32", 30" is available in some designs.  28" would have to be a custom and you would likely be limited to a wood door.

Now, I wonder if you are really asking about a 28 inch door.  The size of a door is usually indicated in feet and inches -- not just inches.  A door that would be called a 28 width (no " mark) is 2' 8", or 32" which is a common standard size.

Other ways to write the 2'8" size:  2/8, 2-8, 2868 (the 68 is the height, commonly 6' 8").  All of these mean the same thing -- 32" width.
