Do eye doctors typically make any attempt to find out whether myopia is pseudomyopia?

Before prescribing glasses for nearsightedness, do eye doctors typically make any attempt whatsoever to determine whether the myopia might be pseudomyopia (and therefore reversible)? Or at least inform the patient of that possibility?

  1. I realy  dont think so. I mean, these days all they think about is $money$

but u may ask ure ure doctor personally?... matbe he/she will answer?

  2. Any decent practioner would consider pseudomyopia if there was any reason to suspect its presence, and as a matter of routine in the first presentation of myopia.

Over 90% of the cycloplegics I used confirmed myopia,  rather than demonstrated pseudomyopia (ciliary spasm).

With pseudomyopia there are usually additional clues to its presence.  It doesn't perfectly mimic myopia.

    Unstable Rx, or vision,

    Esophoria,

    Reduced accommodation,

    Poorer distance vision following reading...

All provide circumstantial evidence of pseudomyopia

(though none are clinchers, providing a "smoking gun")

The good old-fashioned +1.00 blur test and momentary duochome gives a very good indication if accommodation is behaving unusually.

But, if in doubt, paralyse the ciliary muscle for its own good.

    Just temporarily.

  3. I've never heard of this but I'm guessing that pseudomyopia is something that only affects people with mild prescriptions and that they only need glasses to see distance details more clearly. I certainly wish I had it. Unfortunately, my problem is very real and very severe.
