  2. It all depends on the factory.  Where I work, production runs around the clock 365 days a year.  However, I work in the chemical industry and our emmissions are highly scrutinized and controlled.  We typically emit less than one tenth of the legal threshold for reporting your emmissions.

    The bottom line is industry tends to meet demand.  It doesn't matter if one factory is going 24 hours a day or two factories are going twelve hours a day.  Consumers create demand by using products and industry meets that demand in an attempt to make money.
