Do fancey guppies have to have a heat lamp?

Never use a heat lamp on a fish tank. Guppies,if kept in a moderately warm room (70 degrees Fahrenheit or higher) can exist without a heater.

as long as you have a warm house you dont need one.   the normal temprature for guppies that they are confertable at is around 68-82   any higher then 82 it's too hot adn they might go into shock or any lower then 68 they will be to cold and put stress on them.

I have 3 guppy tanks ( 29, 40, and 10 gallons) and none have a heat lamp. All you need for guppies is a heater, filter, and a good quality hood light. My guppies are thriving.

If the place for the guppy tank is quite cold, it will be better to use a heather rather than a heat lamp.

Get a heater for fish not a heat lamp. Budget wise, go to Wal-Mart and buy one for $5.
