I have been keeping gold fish for about a year. Now i want to add some fancytail big belly gold fish to my aquarium. Are fancytail gold fish any less hardy than the ordinary gold fish? would it be appropiate to keep them both together?

  1. fantail/fancy goldfish can be bullied and outcompeted to food by common/comet (long-bodied) goldfish. they should NOT be kept together. an over-excited or bullish common goldfish can damage a fancy to the point the fancy has severe internal damage and dies.

    not recommended.

  2. Like the person above me said. It can be done but carefully. Now it really depends what kind of fancy you want to keep. Some have a harder time getting around then others. I have a variety in my tank of commons shubunkins sarasas comets and a fantail. My fancy doesn't have any trouble getting around. The ones that you should not mix are the pearl scale, lion head, bubble eye, moore, ryunkin and similar because they have a much harder time getting around and are more fragile.

  3. Its fine.

  4. fancies will easily be outcompeated for food by the faster commets and shubunkins.

they CAN be kept together if the tank is large enough and feeding is taken slowly and carefully making sure the fancies get to eat properly, but it is Very hard work keeping them together safely.

  5. your suggestion would be fine, thuogh fancy goldfish can be prone to diseases and sometimes swim bladder disorders.i suppose the key to keeping them healthy is a varied diet and good water management.

  6. i am pretty sure all goldfish of different types get along with each other
