Do fat babies grow up to be fat adults?

I was at the mall today and I saw the fattest baby I have ever seen. I know I sound like a jerk, but that baby was HUUUUUUUGGEEEEE. His thighs were the size of tree logs. His feet were literally the size of softballs. I was sitting next to the mom and she told me the baby was 3 months old and I felt bad for her and the baby. And I know NOTHING about baby weights, it just seemed gargantuan. Will this baby be fat when he grows up or does it matter at all?

  1. The only reason people tend to think that overweight babies turn into overweight adults is because the parents do not teach healthy eating habits.

They let their kids consume junk food with limited healthy choices.

If you teach your kids to eat limited junk food, eat food in moderation, make healthy food choices and exercise, your kids will more than likely grow into healthy adults (what they tend to do with their bodies is their choice beyond childhood)

Babies are naturally chubby...I doubt the lady is feeding her 3 month old sugar water and the baby could always have a metabolism disorder.

    You just don't know.

  2. Sometimes so and sometimes not.

Do skinny babies grow up to be skinny?

There was this baby at my son's daycare a few months back; he was 3 months and his head was bigger than my now 16 month old son's head. He was so big and I, too, felt so sorry for him. His mother had them "make him eat" 7 oz. of formula (my son drank about 3 oz. at that age) every 2 hours! They were crazy out of their minds. Well, they took him out. I know what you mean though. It is ashame.

  3. no..i was a pretty large baby and im perfectly skinny now

  4. no, there is no correlation between the weight of a baby and an adult.

He will slim down a lot once he starts becoming mobil.

  5. i was a fat little f**t. i am a size 1 now at 5ft 1 . I weigh 109

  6. The fatness of the adults that produced the baby is a better indicator . . . not just because of genetics, but learned habits that pass on.

*This message was not intended to offend any of the overweight readers . . . I'm sure its just a thyroid problem . . . or your pants shrunk . . .

  7. Most babies don't grow up to be fat adults because they get taller and that fat stretch out.

  8. I dont' know if they grow up to be fat adults, but most I have noticed have huge heads that they never quite grow into.

  9. Hmm...overweight babies do tend to turn into overweight adults...it has a lot to do with their parents weight (because they model themselves after their parents) their eatting habits and exercise regime (if any) as they grow older. Since I am not really sure by your descritption how much the baby weighed, I can not say what might be the cause of it...but according to studies, if they start out overweight, it is very likely they will continue that way.
