I have a friend whose belief system centers around feminism, She disdains religion, and has mentioned more than once that christianity, and the bible, is oppresive to women. Doesn't this strike you as a bit shallow and dismissive of the depth and quality of mankinds history?

  1. yah according to feminists n**i camp guards where all male and the inmates all female. In the feminist mind there weren't black male slaves either, all women.

  2. No, but I do wonder how the world could have turned out if one half the human population hadn't been systematically repressed (sometimes brutally, sometimes "benignly") for millennia.

  3. Women were not oppressed...rather they were treated like children in the past.

  4. No  it is not shallow, nor dismissive.  Her opinion is based on actual history.  There has always been competition and oppression and slavery in all cultures at one time or another throughout our human existence.

Women have been and still are oppressed and treated in a lesser manner than men in many cultures (religious and otherwise), and ours in the USA is no exception.  There are levels and degrees of prejudice, that's for sure, but to say it doesn't exist at all is clearly delusional.

Your friend's mindset is valid -- by all standards of history and reason.

  5. It certainly seems as if the treatment they received was quite oppressive prior to the women's rights movements in the 20th century.

They were treated as if they served no ultimate purpose other than child birth and the act of mating (whores), and everything in between was a matter of breeding.

You could, on the other hand, argue that this treatment was because of the aristocratic values installed by the fledgling imperial dictatorships, not because of actual one-upmanship over a social competitor.

It doesn't strike me as shallow and dismissive at all, i think your friend is simply pointing something out that she believes is true "to a certain degree".

Infact, props to her for taking the time to think about it in the first place.

  6. "mankinds history"??  You answered your own question when you didn't refer to it as "peoplekind's theirstory"

  7. no shes absolutely right and well educated. More educated than you!

  8. Its amazing how uncritically we accept theories like the historical oppression of women by men. Ask her to look at Section 6 here http://www.freewebs.com/feminism-evaluat...

... and see what she says.

  9. Certain elements of the Bible are sexist, but like every religious text, its contradictions are approximately the only constant.

  10. White men have oppressed everybody!!! haha wonder how many thumbs downs I'll get! BRING IT ON XD!!!!!

"As far as i know, they do. And i tend to agree with them. For whatever reason, women have been systematically relegated to second class human beings for most of known history."

Well that's what happens when you keep coming up 2nd in a two man race, you should be treated as second-class-->> isn't that what you are?  How is it men's fault?

  12. As far as i know, they do. And i tend to agree with them. For whatever reason, women have been systematically relegated to second class human beings for most of known history. Can you blame them for being pissed about it?

Sure, some modern feminist "schools of thought" are just totally insane, but the underlying principle to feminism is certainly founded in reality.

    To Kingston-

ORLY? Seriously? So there's some sort of man vs women competiton going on? What race was it that women have been loosing? Do you realize that there isn't anything men can do that women can't? Do you realize that there are things that women can do that men can't, such as assuring the continuous existence of the species? Do you realize that, pretty soon, we men can become obsolete to that purpose? Also, do you realize you probably have the IQ of a door k**b?

  13. the bible is  oppressive to women, have you read it?

  14. Pretty much so. One reason men have been so successful at it is because so many women are so accepting of it. Look at some of them on here. They like being second class citizens. I agree with your friend about religion.
