Do feminists allow their children to play with traditional toys?

Do your daughters play with dolls, or do you steer them to toys designed more for males? Do you allow your sons to play with toy guns, or do they play house?

Any and all input is appreciated.

  1. I played with toy guns and knives sometimes but I usually stuck to the action figures. Also, Mike T = Winner.

  2. mostly gender neutral toys...you know arts and crafts stuff, blocks, Lego's, balls, leapster, ect ect ect.

My daughter does have several baby dolls, but only realistic ones....no barbie or brats.

She also has trucks and other "male" stuff...

For the most part she picks out her own toys.  I'll hand her cash...tell her how much stuff costs and she picks up what she wants...turns toysrus into a game/learning experience as well.

  3. yes. one thing i love about having a daughter is that i get to buy her all the girly stuff. if i had a boy i would get him boy things though. in that case i would probably let my bf pick the toys and stuff since he would know better than i what a little boy would want to play with.

  4. I allowed my daughters to play with whatever toys they wished to play with. They weren't all that interested in dolls but loved more gender neutral toys like building kits or craft kits.

  5. Not that I have kids but playing is one of the most important rituals of childhood. I wouldn't look for traditional toys, but I would be sure she had things to engage her imagination, let her create her own world and enjoy being a kid. If that involves a doll house and so be it.

  6. My sons like water pistols, toy machine guns, lego(star wars), bikes, trampolines, books, squishy stuff in jars that make f**t sounds......

Hey if it makes them happy, then sure.

  7. Honestly, most of my son's toys can be described as gender neutral. He has puzzles, blocks, pull toys, books, cars, stuffed animals, puppets, shape sorters...no guns. But would you REALLY give a toy gun to a 1 yr old? That seems creepy to me.

But he doesn't have any dolls, or "house" stuff...although I am thinking about getting him toy food items. Maybe if has a toy green bean that he likes, he'll eat the ones on his plate! lol.
