  1. There is a sort of stereotype in many stories and such that ferrets steal. But this is no different that 'dogs eating bones' or ''foxes being sly'. It is just common folklore.

The fact is that ferrets are very bright and bold. They are very similar to dogs, with a little more sneakiness. They will go off exploring, and if they find something interesting, they might like to play with it. When say a dog likes something it will also take it back to its dog bed to "keep" as its own plaything. Same with ferrets, they will drag it back to their cage to "keep" it.

This is why you must 'ferret-proof' your room before letting them out. Anything you want to keep undestroyed, hide somewhere safe just in case. YOu also want to research about proper training tecniques to discourage this sort of behaviour. A well-mannered ferret won't do this too much.

  2. Ha-ha !  Mine always do !  Everything from socks, to stuffed animals, to hair brushes, makeup brushes and even potatoes from the kitchen !

    Cute little thieves though !

Whenever I find I'm missing something, there is an easy chair in my den and I can bet it will be under it !

  3. They can be sneaky, I do know that mine just LOVES to steal my socks!

  4. One of my friends used to have a ferret.  Things were always disappearing!!  One day, when cleaning the house, she moved the couch and all the things that had been missing were found.  The ferret had ripped a hole in the bottom of the couch and was stuffing things inside!!  Unfortunately, he never learned not to steal things and stole a bobby pin one day, stuck it in an electrical socket and killed himself :(

Just another example of why you need to ferret proof your house.

  5. well mine do they steal socks, wrappers, stuffed animals, things they can lift and carry.
