  1. Depends on the engine. Some are tankers and some are pumpers. You see those fire hydrant things along the street, that's where they get water.

  2. some do, most do not.

  3. Even in the cities, fire engines carry water in tanks since speed is an essence in putting out a fire.  Its quicker to use water from the truck, than to hook up to a hydrant.

NFPA  (National Fire protection assoc) requires that a pumper have a minimum of 300 gallon water tank on a pumper.

Note that a pumper also has a minimum pump size of 750 gpm.  The smallest pump will empty the smallest tank in less than 30 seconds, therefore firefighter have to conserve water or hook up to an external source of water (usually a hydrant)

  4. not anymore

  5. No, they hook the hoses up to the hydrants

  6. some of them do ,  others are just pumps , thats why they should be vey near of the hydrants , you know , water is very heavy to be effectively  and fast  carried in an emergency situation

  7. i sure hope so.

not every fire is conveniently located near a hydrant.

    the answer is yes.

  8. I guess so, becuase how else can they put the flames out!

    Hope this ressolves your discussion!

  9. Yes they have tanks on the sides

  10. Depends on the fire truck, some do and some don't.  Many fire trucks do have internal water tanks that can be used along with or in absence of hydrants.

  11. Some of them do, yes.  Especially the older ones or ones in smaller communities where rural fires pose a bigger risk.   Most of the modern, city ones though, don't....they attach to hydrants and get all the water they need from the municipality or city.

The gallery here....shows both kinds of firetrucks.

  12. Some do for rural fires, some use hydrants for city fires

  13. No, unless it's a tanker truck.  They're the ones that look like the trucks that haul milk.  Usually firefighters tap into the hydrants if they're available.

  14. Yes they do carry water. Tons of it actually.

  15. NO! Hah. Why do you think they have got street pumps everywhere?! The fire engine has a hose that you s***w into the street pumps to pump water out!
