  1. Fireworks can pollute the environment in many ways: Air , water, noise to name a few.Fireworks can exceed 140 decibels and noise at 85 decibels or above can damage hearing. The smoke from fireworks consists mainly of fine toxic dusts (particulate matter) that can easily enter the lungs.Smoke from fireworks combustion may contain a mixture of sulfur-coal compounds, traces of heavy metals, and other toxic chemicals or gases. The combustion cloud can contain harmful fumes such as ozone, sulfur dioxide and nitric oxide. Smoke from consumer fireworks is of most concern because they are released at a low level which makes inhalation more likely compared to professional displays. Additionally, in this time where the issues of climate change and global warming are being presented with a sense of urgency, we need to be concerned about the greenhouse gases fireworks produce, which include Carbon dioxide (CO2) and ozone. For the color effect of fireworks, toxic heavy metals like barium, aluminum, lead, mercury salts, antimony, copper, and strontium can be used in firework

  2. Fireworks cause significant, short-term pollution.  Large firework displays cause more significant amounts of pollution for a longer period of time.  The reason why they are not considered for ban by the EPA is that their health risks/exposure are for a short period of time over the course of a year.  Of course, banning fireworks would go over like a cabbage f**t in an elevator.

Some of the exposures include unburned hydrocarbons (smoky smell), metals (such as chrome, lead, barium, copper, iron, nickel, cobalt), perchlorate, acid chlorides, nitrogen-oxides (NOx) and acids, sulfur-oxides (SOx) and acids, particulate, and carbon monoxide.  And of course, since many are made in China, who knows what other stuff is in there from time to time.

For sensitive individuals, viewing should be done at a distance and infants/young children should not be seated underneath or downwind from the festivities.

The last link below is actual air quality results during a fireworks display.

I hope this answers your question.

  3. ya of course......................u know it adds co2 n all sort of poisonous gases 2 the atmosphere n then.........ozone depletion , global warming etc......will lead 2 many adverse effects

  4. they do cause pollution but the amount is so small it would be hard to measure it.

  5. Yes, burning stuff gives off CO2 a green house gas, which goes into our atmosphere. It doesnt give off to much.

  6. no more than a fish f**t.

besides, I love the smell of black powder burning in the evening sky - don't you?
