  1. No,they don't.


  2. They can try to "breathe" harder if there's not enough oxygen in the water, and they will "cough" to clear their gills of debris floating in the water.

  3. No because fish have gills.  They don't drink the water, they absorb it.

  4. Yes.  Their gills filter out oxygen that lets them 'breathe', but too much water filtering through the gills, would basically overoxygenate the fish, and kill them.  Also, if the water is 'bad' and gross, (like the Hudson river) the fish will go belly up so to speak.

  5. yes they can choak in water if BOD, (biological oxygen demand) of water is very high that means no dissolved oxygen is available in water which impacts to animals in water they can choak and die or try to gulp air from surface of water. it happens in stagnated water mostly where first plants dies and decay out and then BOD increases

    if you have fishes and you come across this behaviour of fishes in aqarium then change your water with fresh

  6. If they do, they are not fish.
