My college has just begun to offer an A.S. Degree in fitness training. I am currently trying to get certified as a trainer/ learning. I always have had and continue to have a passion for fitness training. But i also want to study RN and fell more secure in that area for the simple fact that it is steady income and good money.

  1. Nursing is a better bet for a good career given the nursing shortage and the fact that your license will allow you to work anywhere.  Most fitness trainers are judged and paid by the number of clients they can attract.

  2. Those with formal training and degrees can certainly be more marketable as it gives a level of credibility to the individual.

For general career info:  http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'fitness workers', 'athletes, coaches, umpires and related workers', 'registered nurses' or such.  Please make sure that the program is accredited within the industry.

Please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, stratford career, us career, capella, university of phoenix, kaplan, strayer, devry, walden, keiser and others:  http://www.capellauniversitysucks.us

http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.
