Do flagman on road construction crews have any legal authority to make you stop?

just looking to see if the guy holding the stop sign on a road crew has any legal authority. Do you HAVE too stop according to the law?

  2. Yes they do ... you are driving through their jobsite ... do what you're told til it's safe to go .... It's not hard to do .

    Yes they do have legal authority.

    In most states now the traffic fines in zones where they are working is double.

    The people performing the work have to have permits , and they have to use legal signs.
