Do fluorescent bulbs give off heat?

My mom wants to know if they give off heat.

Yes but they are cooler than incandescent lights.  They still get too hot to pull out with your hands sometimes.

Sure they do.  They're more efficient that a lot of other ways to make light, but they are not 100% efficient.  

In addition, the big tubes commonly used for building lighting are hot-cathode fluorescent lamps.  In each end is a little filament which heats the end.  This is energy wasted as heat, but it makes the lamp easier to start.

Yes.  Anything above absolute zero gives off heat.  The more energy you supply, the more heat it gives off.

But INCANDESCENT LIGHTS! Those ones have heat...

The ones in christmas lights...they use more electricity but are warmer than fluorescent...
