Do flys hang around dead bodies?

Question

We've been having a lot of fly problems in out kitchen and basement lately and our landlord is kinda...odd to put it mildly. We think he must have killed someone and buried them in our dirt floor basement and that is where the flys are coming from. Is that possible tho? Would they really be attracted that them?

oh yes!!!! thats thier bredding ground! they lay thier eggs in the dead flesh, so when the eggs (maggots) hatch they have somthing to eat...

Flies lay their eggs in lost anything that is rotting, their larva (maggots) consume the rotting material

Flies are attracted to the smell of death and decay. They immediately hunt the host and deposit their eggs.

dead bodies are only one of the many places where flies, musca domestica,  can lay their eggs, the maggots develop, and the flies  produced...any organic source, with enough moisture and decaying organic material will be a place that flies can reproduce.  Adult flies do not bite, and can only feed on liquid matter, they excrete saliva on solidified organic matter to feed.  They are an important vector in the spread of several diseases...however, if you have a real concern, call the local health department, they will have a vector control officer, they will assist you in finding the source of the flies, and give you some good information in controlling them, and if it is a dead body, buried or otherwise, they will find it...good luck.

  At one of our family picnics somehow a fly got under the the cover we had over the sliced beef....and quick as a wink it had laid eggs in it.   Of course we had to pitch the entire thing.   But we were shocked at how quickly it happened.    Flies are so GROSS.
