Actually Winnipeg has the potential on a given night to be colder than the tippy top of Alaska.  The temperature extremes between winter and summer in Winnipeg AMAZE me!

Usually when it is -45 in Winnipeg, it is a clear sunny windless day with a big High pressure ridge right over Winnipeg and Grand Forks, North Dakota.   Everything south gets a Northwesterly wind that blows down from Winnipeg.  

The total opposite extreme can happen in mid-July. You can have a warm front just north of Winnipeg, and nothing but humid gulf moisture south of it.  It can reach a stifling 104 degrees with humidity, followed by electrical storms and tornado watches.  

Because of how far Winnipeg is from the coast, the frontal boundaries can play games with Winnipeg's climate, and the temperature changes are so steep it's scary just to look at.

Then, ironically, you can have a perfect gorgeous 75 degree day with 60 at night.

no they dont live in igloos and it's much warmer than -70 degrees. I've been there. The average summer temp. is actually positive 77 degrees.

Winnipeg doesn't get cold enough to generate the kind of snow needed to build an igloo. That sort of snow is only found in the high arctic. Geez, I'm, hoping you aren't one of those sorts that believes all these silly myths about Canadians, eh? :P)
