  1. Yep.  That's where we first noticed it, based on the rotational curves not matching what we would expect if we could see all the mass there was.  I believe it was Vera Rubin who discovered that.

  2. Yes... there is more dark matter and energy in the universe than visible matter.

  3. squeek is WRONG DEAD WRONG

we have taken pictures of dark matter, here is a link to see one.

    Caught by hubble.

  4. We don't know. There is NO evidence of "dark matter" to date, other than our lack of understanding of certain gravitational problems.

We have NEVER observed dark matter, we have NEVER observed dark energy, and frankly, I think that the entire idea is laughable. Dark matter and Dark energy a simply buzz words in physics that may someday turn out to be true (proving my beliefs wrong). The math that supports the idea of dark matter and dark energy is certainly solid. And it NEEDS to be studied and investigated.

However, my belief is that the idea of dark matter and dark energy will go the way of the dinosaur.

(Man, am I going to get a LOT of thumbs down for this!)

ALSO: ERI: WE HAVE NEVER NOTICED IT!!!

EDIT: Sorry, Zero, no we have never noticed it. The Hubble would be totally incapable of taking a picture of dark matter, since dark matter cannot interact with the matter in the Hubble to a degree that would produce a picture. Besides, I don't think that "badastronomy.com" is really a site that I would trust on this. If you want to cite something, show me a research journal or nasa. If the Hubble has found dark matter, then the results will be on nasa's website, since it is their telescope.

  5. Not known at this time, but probably yes.
