Question:

Do garbage disposals over 1/2hp require more plumbing?

I am going to buy a disposal for my new kitchen. While reading reviews, a woman said she chose a 1/2hp instead of a 3/4hp or greater because it required less plumbing. I was wondering why, or if it was true.

Thanks!

  1.      The more hores power the motor is the larger the housing and price of the umit. As for as needing more plumbin, I'm not sure what they are refuring to. Unless you Put in a unit exactly the same size you  will need to redo your drain so the new one will connect to the drain. If you are planning to put it in your self. I would buy a new sink drain set it will have all the pieces you will need to make adjustments. It will also have new slip joint washers whitch you may need to stop leaks. If you don't need them and you got them at Home Depot or Lowes you can take them back.

  2. Not to my knowledge. They just chew up the silverware better than the 1/2 horse models do.

  3. No, you don't need more plumbing, more horsepower better grinding, therefore less plumbing problems, also more quiet. I would recommend

3/4 horsepower since you replacing get good one with multi grind and seal

    sound technologies.

  4. No difference in plumbing. Insinkerator has come out with a new line that is amazingly quiet. I may change mine.

  5. Sounds like someone sold her a line.....
