  1. No. The English owe just as much to the Celts and Scandinavians. For example, there aren't nearly as many redheads in Germany as there are in England - and there are places in north-east England with a higher number of blondes than anywhere in Germany could ever hope to have.

Further still, while the English are a relatively homogeneous people, what with them living on an island and all, Germany sits at the heart of Europe and thanks to the constant population shifts over the centuries has a very mixed population.

Obviously most physical differences between European peoples are slight - the only real differences I can think of right now are that, in general, Germans tend to be square headed - like most central Europeans - while the English have a longer head shape that they share with the Celtic peoples and Scandinavians.

As for the Anglo-Saxons - not all of them came from northern Germany. The Angles were from the Danish peninsula and they probably included a lot of Frisians in their number too.

The English and the Germans are not really that similar at all.

  2. yeah they kind of look similar but once they begin to speak, u are sure to understand what they are - that is even if germans speak english or the english speak german........

  3. The East coast English people look a lot more like the Germans... they are partially the descendants of Saxons from Saxony (Germany) who settled here a very long time ago, the Anglo Saxons.

The people in the West look a bit darker and rounder faced, more like Mediterranean people. To the North they look a lot more Nordic/Celtic.

  4. More or less. I think Germans might tend to be a bit bigger, in terms of frame. And possibly more likely to be blond. But other than that, yeah, Germans and English people are both Caucasian.

  5. nope, we do not look like zee germans.

england is made up of saxons, normans, norse.

Lots of us are celts, and we tend to be ginger! not very german.

  6. There are some German people who look exactly as if they were English and also the opposite. But your question is trying to make sterotypes of the two nations' peoples, which is simply not the right way to think about them because there are many more people from each country who are not looking the same.

  7. Not particularly. There were about a million people living in England when the saxons came, and to imagine they were all killed or driven out is, well, silly. (show me one mass grave from a Saxon slaughter!)

Dna testing has shown that,as in most countries, the founder effect is strong and many English people have ancient roots long before the Saxons-in fact back to the neolithic and the mesolithic..

Recent isotope testing on people in early 'Saxon 'cemetaries have shown that a good proportion of them were british born.
