Question:

Do ghosts leave behind traces of any weird gas or any traceable changes in air composition?

I am writing a book and I'd like to know whether ghost presence causes any changes in air composition that can be detected or measured. I know about air chill or cold spots, but I'm not interested in this. Pls help!

  1. I think an excellent resource for your book are the movies Ghostbusters and the sequel Ghostbusters II. In those movies you will see that ghosts indeed leave a green slime behind them. Additionally you will find out that ghosts can be captured contained and even destroyed with specially designed photon ray packs. These are very dangerous particle accelerators which , when used by two people simultaneously cannot allow the energy streams to cross. So be careful.

  2. As ghosts are a figment of the imagination I would assume that the imagination does not emit any gas or changes in air composition, that is unless you happen to sh*t yourself when thinking about them. Then I suppose there would be a traceable gas and a slight change to the air composition. Both these would be able to be measured with the results depending on what you had eaten recently.

But I'm not interested in this either.

    Hope this helps

  3. No, they don't leave any kind of reproducible, empirical trace of their presence.  Which is why most people who have examined the evidence objectively have concluded that they don't exist.  Of course you have people like the one above me who say they have a '6th sense' to sense them and stuff like that, put lots of people say lots of crazy things and there's no reason you should take any of them seriously unless they can demonstrate their claims under controlled conditions.  And despite hundreds if not thousands of attempts, everybody who has tried to demonstrate an ability like this has failed.

You're completely free to believe in this stuff anyways, but now you're talking about religion, not science.

If you want a scientific explanation for ghosts that's at least sort of believable, you might try saying they're beings that are capable of moving through other spatial dimensions than the three we see, they're actually normal beings but they look extraordinary to us because as they pass through our slice of space we see them appear and disappear.

Kind of like this - http://xahlee.org/flatland/index.html

But for that to work you'd have to give up the idea that they were once people who lived on earth that died.  There's just no logical way to make that work.

But then, when writing a fiction book you're free to make up anything you want, it doesn't have to make sense as long as it's entertaining.

  4. This question has nothing to do with either science or mathematics. Ghosts are not real.

  5. Dont listen to those other people. they obviously are not astute or sensitve or do not have their 6th sense developed.  Yes there is evidence in changes, other gases being released, but i have read this in data and in my personal experience, have found strange odours, smells.  No im not nuts.  suggest you google or talk to other people who have written books on this subject.  Look at historical sites, or there is a calibrator meter that people use to sense ghostly presence maybe they could be more informative.  anyway good luck writting your book.  but suggest you should of asked this question in the science section not mathematics
