Do gloves matter and how so?

Some do, any contact item imbued with properties that effect your opponents (i.e. damage health, damage fatigue, ect.) can be useful in a fight where contact is made.  This is especially effective for gloves since the player actively uses these augmentations as opposed to other types of clothing where the effect is rendered when the opponent comes in direct contact with the player.

Aside from those effects, gloves give you and added armor bonus which makes you more resistant to enemy attacks.  Your armor rating appears in the lowest part of your inventory screen close to the middle in the form of a number next to a shield.
