  1. that will be common goldfish fancy gold fish grows usually around six inches without the tail buy a ranchu or oranda.  Common goldfish and shubunkins will grow huge.

  2. Some varieties can. You should talk to the people working at the pet store. They'll tell you the best fish for your set-up.

  3. Comets can grow in excess of 24 inches.

There are fancy's that grow only 5-7 inches.  These are the ones that you are looking for.

  4. yes they do turn HUGE! if they live long enough to turn HUGE! because i had a goldfish for 3 years and it was about the size of your hand. width and length. and sometimes they're twice as big.  and my friend has a goldfish for 6 years now and its big! But get theind of goldfish that are white with black and orange speckles. those stay small normally.  about the size of your thumb.

  5. No thats not true. they get BIGGER! Up to 14-16 inches. The smallest goldfish that i can think of gets 8" and those are your Ryukins, Orandas, Fantails, Pearlscale and telescope varieties.

  6. goldfish will grow in size according to thier environment (size of container). goldfish in a 20gal. tank will remain small. goldfish in a pond will get up to 24in.

  7. The smallest goldfish gets about 6 inches long. That is fancy varieties. Comon goldfish or comets get about a foot long. So not. There is not a goldfish that can stay small. I say go for a betta. Have you seen all the different tail types! Crowntail bettas, halfmoons, wild types! SO MANY TYPES!!!!!!!!! I personally like bettas more than goldfish, altho goldfish are cool to! Right now I am trying to breed my bettas!

  8. Fancy goldfish reach 6 to 8" long and common's can get 12" or more.  You need a minimum of a 20 gallon tank for the first fish with at least 10 more gallons for each additional fish.  Goldfish are messy, live a long time and require quite a bit of care if you look after them properly.

  9. No, but they do grow huge, some species commonly grow to 2 feet or more.  Fancy goldfish, including black moors don't grow that big, but still need a large tank for just one.

  10. Don't talk to the people at the petstore. They will sell you a one gallon bowl and laugh all the way to the bank. Think about it. When your fish dies, you will go right back and buy another one.

Fancy goldfish (moors, fantails, orandas, butterfly, ranchus) grow to be an average of 6-8 inches.

Common goldfish (commet or cigar shaped) average at 12 inches or more.

Koi have been known to grow well over 2 ft.

Goldfish are from the carp family. They are big pond fish.

If you want to get serious about goldies, buy a fish book and a 20 gallon tank.

  11. goldfish can grow to 12 inches long if you have them in the proper sized aquarium with a water filter. goldfish will not survive long in a bowl, the only fish that will thrive in an open tank with no filter or heat is a betta. You would need at least a 10 gallon aquarium to house 1 goldfish, preferably even 15-20 gallon for it to live to it's full life span

  12. Yes, the ones in the pet store get big too. Fancies usually stay smaller like 6-8 inches max. But you would need a 30 gallon tank or more. Best of luck : )

  13. u should get a betta they more clean and nice to look at and easter to take care of

  14. haha I laughed at the title of the question! Yes the GROW to be huge lol! yes they reach a length of 8-12 inches and can grow even bigger! ALL goldfish reach a minimum of 8 inches if kept in proper conditions (i'm talking 20 gallons for the first and 10 for each additional) they also can live to be 20 years old. Commets (feeders) get to be larger then the others and need more then 20 gallons! Samw with koi but koi really should only be kept in ponds except maybe for the winter!  Yup just like the breeders goldfish pet store goldfish get to be just as big and old!
