Question:

Do good snakes keep bad snakes out of your yard?

When we moved into our newly constructed house three years ago, we had copperheads, timber rattlers and an occasional cotton mouth. Lately all I see are king snakes and brown snakes. I am not complaining! That's a good thing -- but wondered: are the non poisonous snakes the heroes for getting rid of the poisonous snakes? We have never used any repellents, which I doubt even work.

  1. I'm so sorry but to me there is no such thing as good or bad snakes.

"It must be bad if they call it snake, 'cause if it wasn't bad they wouldn't call it snake".

The only thing in life that brings out the killer in me. Except for the antichrist!

Sorry RScott I don't touch them......

  2. When driving here in the Dakotas I always stop to pick up Bull Snakes and bring them home. They do double duty on rattlers and rodents.  RScott

  3. Yes...at least as far as the king snakes go.  King Snakes will actually eat the other snakes (Thats how they derived their name) and are immune from the poison of venomous snakes such as rattlesnakes and copperheads.
