Question:

Do guppies really need aquarium salt?

The tag on the tank where I got my guppies said that they needed 2 teaspoons of aquarium salt for a 10 gallon tank in order to survive. Is that true? I haven't read anywhere online that guppies require salt, only mollies. I'm really hoping they don't require it because it keeps clouding up my tank water! Any help would be appreciated!

  1. I don't think so, i really think guppies can live and reproduce anywhere.

  2. no they can go in 100% freshwater

and i have heard  some can live in proper saltwater aquariums

  3. No, they don't need salt.  Some guppy keepers may put salt in their water as a preventative for diseases, but this is not necessary.

I've been keeping and breeding guppies for years without salt in their water and the adults and fry do just fine.

  4. its really good to put it in any other fish water because some smaller fish catch parasites more quickly then others.

i really don't think its nessary but if you want a healthy fish its a must...... i use it too but started after my oscar died which i had for year in a half, he died of ich which he caught from an guppy i fed him which carried it

i still use till this day so i think you should

  5. No, well not all guppies need salt water (i guess).

I have 1 male guppy and it's not in salt water.
