  1. no hamsters live longer when there on the verge of death

  2. Absolutely not. You can buy a hamster when it is 6 weeks, or when it is 1 year old, it will still be the same exact hamster, and will live for the same amount of time. If you buy them younger, you will simply have them for longer, it doesn't mean they actualyl live longer.

Your friend came across some luck with her hamster. Some hamsters are just poorly bred especially in pet stores, and have many healthy complications. It would be rare to find a perfectly healthy hamster at a store.

But honestly, a hyper active hamster is totally normal at any age. The only time a hamster will calm down is when there is an ailment that may be bothering it.

  3. Hamsters live on average btw 2-3 years (if they're Syrians) and 1-2 years if they're dwarfs. If she's super healthy right now, it's because you're doing an awesome job taking care of her. Keep that up! The better care you take of your hamsters, the longer they will live. Their lifespan is dependent on the care they receive. I don't know if it totally matters when you get them, but as long as they're loved and taken care of they will have a good long life. If you buy them when they're young you just get more time with them =) Here's more info if you want http://www.hamsterific.com

  4. It better to buy them little but they only live about 2 years anyhow.
