Yes. Deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging (convicted of charges related to the executions of 148 Iraqi s**+'ites suspected of planning an assassination attempt against him)

He was executed on December 30, 2006,  (controversial video clips of him and his captors insulting each other and recorded by mobile phone was posted on the Internet within hours after he was hanged)
