  1. No you do not. That is the meda stereotype of boxers or those who go into boxing.

What you need to be a good fighter is heart, passion, drive, athleticism and skill.

  2. No, but you need some kind of powerful motivation.

  3. no just do your best

  4. No, but in many cases boxing has always been a poor person sport. Gyms in bad neighborhoods where troubled kids go and learn. Most poor schools don't even have the budget for real athletics in school. That is why a lot so called "ghetto" kids get into basketball, because all you need is a ball and a hoop, which are always in city areas. Even now they are pushing to get more boxing gyms into bad neighborhoods to get kids out of gangs.

Also, there is a certain mentality that downtrotten youths have. A real BIG chip on their shoulder, and almost bitter hunger to PROVE everyone wrong.

Ali didn't grow up poor, but he grew up during a time where blacks where treated  poorly, which gave Ali this hunger to prove something, which he did. Same with a lot fighters of that era.

Look at boxing now, and usually pour countries that are bringing out the best fighters. Latin and Asian countries. These are guys that are fighting to feed their familes. Look at the wave of Cuban defectors coming here to fight and make real money instead of practically nothing in Cuba.

Why I think a lot US Heavyweights today are bad. They are spoiled, don't feel like they have to work for their money, and just being big is good enough. And if  things get too tough, they just quit. That is why they are losing to the more hungrier and poor East Europeans.

  5. no

  6. To be a pro you have to have motivation, desire, a goal in life.

Some boxers uses their family as motivation.

  7. No but it helps.

  8. No.  I had a terrible childhood and I lack the 'quick-on-your-feet-thinking' to be a good 'fighter'.  I always think of the best responses AFTER the event is over.

  9. ...wtf..you dont have to be anything to be a good fighter

  10. no but when someone has a poor childhood it gives them more motivation to become a great fighter or they been through a lot of fights in there life being from the 'hood'

  11. Having a poor childhood could be a powerful motivating force in driving one to overcome hardship and instill a tenacious resolve in accomplishing any goal in life but that is all it is good for, nothing else. One could instill the same drive and commitment without but the deep-rooted emotions of hurt and desperation are unique and the sense of achievement through adversity is more profound,I believe.

  12. You just have to have Iron willed determination and a cause bigger then yourself helps. Like the other guy said its all motivation, Its just that poor people have more motivation to not be poor.

If a guy who was nearly homeless knew that if by winning a fight hes that closer to not being poor and that's life changing and possibly life saving. When they go up against a guy with millions and millions of dollars in the bank. The millionaire is not going to risk his life. And the poor guy will.... that's when you see big upsets.

But to offset that their is pride, give either one of these guys pride and he will be life or death to beat. So if you have a ton of pride and are poor you would have the motivation to be great.

  13. You mean growing up in the Bronx and being in the ghetto East Side and go to the run down old factory to box.
