Do heart surgeons need to be good at math? I want to be one, but i'm terrible at math! help!!?

I'm in year 9 at high school and am leaving in year 12 then going to university. Trouble is i CANT DO MATH! I'M TOTALLY HOPELESS AT IT!

  1. Well, you shouldn't need to be a math genius, but you need to know math for medicine, which they should teach at the university.


  2. i would want my heart surgeon to be a GENIUS....

    do the best you can.  you'll learn what all the course will entail when you get into college.  you wouldn't go directly into Med school right away.  you need to go through your undergrad college and get INTO med school.

  3. To get into med school, you will need up to 2 courses of calculus. You can get credit for it through AP testing at the high school level or you can take it in college. If you take it in college, it will show up on your gpa, which is part of the package you present to med schools in your application. Med schools require a pretty high gpa, so yes, you will probably need to do decent in those courses. In med school itself, you will use very minor math, but you will need to know many basic concepts to apply to certain areas. For example, understanding logarithms is pretty important.
