Do hedgehogs make good pets?

i was thinking about hedgehogs. how do they compare to rats? are they intelligent? do they like to be handled? are they easy to take care of? do they bite as much as hamsters? what are they like?

  1. You can't really compare hedgehogs and rats, they are very different both care and personality wise. Hedgehogs are not nearly as friendly and handleable as rats. It's not to say they can't be handled when tamed properly, but they aren't quite as enthusiastic about it as rats can be. Your best bet would be to do some more research into them:

  3. I would not recommend keeping hedgehogs as pets. They are aggressive and will bite anything that picks it up. Even when they are just new born, they are still very dangerous. You are better off with just having a hamster. At least you know what to expect. You can still try if you like, I'm not telling you to not get them, just telling you it's probably not a good idea.

  4. Ehm, no. They are agressive, they are outdoor types and they are far from domesticated unlike the breeds you find in pet stores of gerbils, rats and hamsters.
