Do herman tortoise's (testudo hermanni) need humidity in the tanks?

  1. The current best practice is to provide all species of young tortoises with at least a humid hide with at least 70% humidity. Hermann's and other grassland species of tortoises should have relatively low humidity (40-60%ish) in the rest of the tank.

    This allows then the ability to select humidity just as they do temps,


  2. Actually they might need a de-humidifier as the humidity in an enclosed tank is much higher than their natural habitat and could lead to respiratory/breathing problems.  Also provide them ample UV radiation with a UV fluorescent tube or taking them outdoors for sun bathing in summers.  

  3. They need slight humidity, but putting a solid lid on a tank creates way too much of it, I recommend wire mesh for the lid.
