  1. Actually, the official stats say that home-schooled children are on average, 4 years ahead of their state-schooled peers. Who's the dumbass now?

  2. And how, exactly, are your parents practically making your sister a "dumbass"?

Parents do have the right to choose how to educate their children - even those who send them to traditional schools where many graduate and then have to take remedial courses in college. Would they be "dumbasses" too?

  3. not all of them end up that way. just the ones with dumb parents

  4. Well, dear, many of them can spell, which is more than I can say for you.

And I agree, it's ridiculous to allow cuss words and censor out Latin...whatever.

The real answer, is that families have the right to be in charge of their child's education, whether it is achieved through public, private, or homeschool.  The fact that homeschoolers, on average, are many percentage points ahead of their public and private school counterparts on standardized and college entrance tests verifies the standard of education that many of them are getting.

Some families, however, have no problem with their children graduating when they are just as ignorant as when they started, no matter what route they choose...but quite frankly, your question looks like the pot calling the kettle black.

  5. If YOUR parents are making your sister a dumbass then that is their responsibility and they are wrong.  Please dont insinuate that we are all like that.  Whether you mean to be or not, you are being very offensive.

*EDIT*  Actually sweepy, yes they DO have the right to do it!!

  6. Ummm.... No.

My first graders and testing at a 3rd grade level. They have many friends and are extremely smart...

Do you have the right to be ignorant to the subject?

  7. There have been many studies proving that homeschooled children are on average "smarter" than there counterparts in public school.

I agree that some people should not teach their children, due to "educational difficulties".

Ignorant people seem to breed ignorant children!

  8. So because your sister is apparently a dumbass, ALL homeschoolers are dumbasses?

Your sister could have brown hair. She is a girl. Does that mean ALL girls have brown hair?

If I have siblings who went to public school and are failures now, does that mean ALL public schoolers are failures?

ANd they say homeschoolers are narrow minded and have no concept of diversity or the real world...

  9. Lol, have to laugh at this.  I agree with the last post, not all of them are that way, just depends on their teachers "parents".  There are public school children who are dumb asses as well, and I can't completely blame their teachers for that as children learn most from their parents.  Sadly, as my husband and I often say, stupid people should not breed.  : P

  10. When parents are responsible and know what they are doing, or get help from someone/a company that is reputable, then cool.  The kid may learn more or be able to explore different areas that they would not in school.  However if the parents have no idea what they are doing and are not teaching their children anything, then that is not OK.  There are basic levels of material children should be able to learn at each age level (assuming they are mentally capable of it) and if their parents are not allowing them to master this, then no, they don't have a right.

  11. Homeschoolers outscore both public and private school students academically.

    Here are some statistics:

  12. My Magna *** Laude 4.0 graduation begs to differ.

Also, the real answer is "yes".

The parent has the right to educate their child as they see fit. The Socialist Agenda here in the States is working to bypass that, but for now freedom is still alive here.

EDIT: You have got to be kidding me... I can't believe that they would censor a Latin word.

  13. Your lack of respect, if a reflection of what public schooling does to children, is truly astounding. Your questions are only serving to reassure parents who homeschool that they have made the right decision. I, for one, would not want my son to be around someone like you, who would post such vulgarity on the internet.

  14. No. They are just hindering them for life.

SOME homeschool kids may be smart, but they are behind socially.

  15. You sound like an angry teen.

I think you should be concerned with your own future especially if you continue with such a rebellious attitude. And stop being jealous of your sister. It's unfortunate that you are not as close to your parents as you should be, and I would hazard a guess that ps has a lot to do with that.

Homeschoolers score much higher on standardized tests than their public school counterparts. You do not have to worry about your sister. I'm sorry your parents aren't homeschooling you too.  It would help your attitude.

  16. No. That is the public school's job.

You pay tax money for that, and that just adds insult to injury.

You are silly.   If a parent has the right to have a child, they have the right to educate them.

  17. Unfortunately home schooling is only as good as the person doing it.  They miss out on social interaction with other kids too. I would only do it if I lived in an area with really lousy schools.

  18. Well, first off some here get into Stanford at age 16

Second parents are allowed by general consenses to make their kids Catholics, Methodists, Presbyterians, Atheists, Agnostics, Scientologists, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Born Again Christians, Christian Scientists or Racists

One Hindu family I know is angered by their daughter marrying a White Boy.

See, that's taboo for Chinese, Japanese, Arabs, Persians or Hindu girls to do, boys is a different story, girls NOPE!

Oh, it's also not cool for WHITE GIRLS to marry and make babies with blacks, Mexicans, Hindus, American Indians, Arabs or Persians or anyone of color, including Jews, in most parts of the Conservative U.S. which amounts to over 50%, mostly south of the Mason Dixon line

  19. You sound very angry towards your parents and your Sister... perhaps you need to examine the real reason and stop using home education as a tool to express yourself. Home Education provides many skills for life and not just what the governments decide they should learn. Surely if your parents have decided that is the best for their daughter, your Sister, you should respect their choice? Best wishes.

  20. I graduated from high school with a 4.0.  I did all my own work.

I got into college with some of the highest entrance exam scores in my class.

I did pretty darn well on my first set of exams.

So in that respect, not all homeschoolers end up "dumbasses".  And besides, I always thought the term "Dumbass" referred more to someone lacking in common sense.  I know a lot of really, really intelligent people who are dumbasses (and they went to public school, so we can't blame it entirely on the parents). ;)

Could you just be upset with your sister?  Lashing out is all fine and well, just remember that at the end of the day it's between you and her.  All the advice in the world won't help change that.

  21. Seems like the pot calling the kettle black to me.

  22. Yes, they do. Bitter much?

I think the irony is overwhelming that YOU went to public school, and yet the result is the same. Hmmm.

  23. So is it the fact you are jealous that you post this and dis-respect your parents and sister?

To answer your question, yes, your parents have the right to raise you any way they want.

  24. Are you trying to impress everyone by showing how you have obviously done so well for yourself by using bad and insulting language?

Of course the fact that you are unable to spell simple words for yourself cannot mean anything, can it?

Many people are actually better educated when they are homeschooled, because they are less distracted by the other students, the drama and the general distractions of a school environment.

I am sure that your parents will be proud of you insulting and degrading them and your sister to the world over the Internet.

You are really proving your own theory.

I am being facetious of course.

  25. In some places, yes, the law says they can. Should they be allowed to? Well, there are plenty of uneducated kids graduating from high schools these days, so they certainly wouldn't be alone in their lack of knowledge.

In the end, if the child grows up knowing nothing, she will not get a great job--she'll get to mop floors somewhere or something--and will have to decide if she's willing to learn more to improve her life.

If you really want to help your sister, instead of judging your family, be a mentor to her. Take her on field trips (although don't call them that), bring her to the library, have time each week to read through a few chapters of a really interesting book. Send her emails that she'll have to learn to read and write and type to respond to. You can have such a huge influence in her life. Like her, you have to decide to actually do something.
