Do homeschools have PTAs?

I was kind of wondering if they have some system set up for people who wish to homeschool which would connect them with others doing the same thing, like a PTA.

  1. depends

  2. Something like that. You wouldn't call it a PTA, obviously, but there is a homeschool support group or cooperative group in almost every city or county. Google <your area> homeschool groups and find the contact information or the date and location of the next meeting for yours.

  3. Is it a PTA meeting when I wander around the house muttering to myself, "Where did you leave that book?"   Or is that a parent-teacher conference?  Or a staff meeting?

All joking aside, what you are describing is a homeschool support group, and there are lots of them around.  Also, homeschool co-ops where the parents take turns teaching different things can be great.

Just type into your search engine, "Homeschool Support Group, Your Town, Your State."  If that doesn't pull up anything, Type in "Homeschool Support Group, Your County, Your State".

  4. Absolutely.  There are park groups, an international phenomenon, where homeschoolers meet at local parks at least once per week.  There are also support groups, co-ops and informal gatherings.http://www.learning4liferesources.com/ho...

  5. There are homeschool support groups and associations, if that's what you mean. Or do you mean an online or other similar school with PTAs? You'd have to talk to the online schools in question.

  6. i highly doubt it... the homeschool teacher gets her material from an actual school with a PTA though :)

  7. You are looking for a co op or support group. Yes, they are out there. Check at local churches or libraries, they can usually refer you to someone. Check on line searching your city and state name and home schooling groups, that may help as well.

    Good Luck!

  8. Parent and Teacher Association would be rather silly if the parent is the teacher, right?
