Question:

Do horrible LC results haunt you?

I've just got my LC results and I didn't really do all that well in them

I passed everything but there were two D's on my result page

And my points when added up are fairly embarrassingly skimpy

Fortunately the course I want to do is only available in a PLC college and I managed to get into it by an interview way before the Leaving Cert happened

My place was reserved there as long as I didn’t fail anything, drop down to foundation in any subject and I got a C or higher in two honours subjects

So points aren't really important to me for want I want to do

However I am not happy overall with my results and my question is would it be worth me repeating to avoid embarrassment?

Do people have conversations about their LC results when they are in college and even later when they’re working?

  1. Not in the slightest.  I live in the north so I did A levels but my results were pretty mediocre.

My results felf even more mediocre because the grammar school were I sat my alevels would stop people taking the exams under the school's name who they thought might bring down the average.

The same school by the way while getting the top alevel results for a boys school in NI also has the reputation for producing the most university drop-outs in the North proving points are not everything.

Like yourself I got the UCAS points I needed to get onto my course at Jordanstown and ended up getting a 1st Class Honours two years ago.  Since then I've lived and worked abroad for 2 years meeting lots of interesting people, learning a foreign language from scratch and generally enjoying myself.  at the minute I'm applying for a funded research positions to try and get my masters.

I hardly remember my school results now and while the fact I didn't do as wonderfully as I may have liked at the time does not bother me in the slightest.

Personally I think the fact you were able to pass an interview to gain entry onto your course is something to be very proud of!  In a couple of years  into your new course no one, most of all yourself will care how well you did on the LC and it certainly has no bearing on how successful you will be in the future.

  2. No they dont haunt you. People ask about them at first in college.

Im 24 and no one has asked me about them since the first month of college which was 6 years ago.

I honestly cant even remember what they are I would have to look them up.

  3. Once you get into your course points don't matter. It's how you do in your plc that will matter.
