Question:

Do horseback riders always have bigger legs

I don't mean like huge or fat or anything like that. But obviously it takes a lot of leg strength to ride a horse. I have naturally thin legs but I'm going to start riding again after having to stop for 2 years after being thrown off (parents decision to stop. not mine!)

Will my legs get a lot bigger? I don't want them to...

  1. Don't worry, just stronger, not bigger. :)

  2. It does take a lot of leg strength to ride a horse.Your legs won't get bigger at all! Your calf muscles will get stronger therefore giving them a more toned look. I've been riding for 3 years and my legs haven't gotten any bigger....just stronger. I Hope I helped!

  3. I think that your big quad muscles on top of your thighs and your calf muscles may increase in size.  But, it will be a healthy increase in size and will be proportionate to your size.

  4. No, I do, but I have been riding since I was 3 and use my thighs a lot more than most. My calves are about 17 inches around because I like to be able to just flex and cue my horse, it works well for subtle cues. Also I am about 5'9" and my legs are really long, 37" inseam, so I think they are big, but for my height they don't look big. If you ride competitively or train, just working the muscles will increase their size, but it's a good increase, it doesn't make them look fat or anything, especially if you wear shorts at all. I know guys like my legs and rear, and it all comes from building those riding muscles. ;P

  5. No they will get toned and stronger not bigger.  It is great exercise.

  6. I dont think legs get that much bigger, because its more stamina based exercise, so they get toned

  7. they will get more defined & muscular

if youre naturally thin with very little muscle mass then they shouldnt get bigger, just toned

  8. They wont get big or anything... but more muscle. Which is good which will help you in other stamina activities.

  9. Nope! My friend has been riding since she was 5 (she's 17 now) and she's always had little twig legs. I'm sure your legs will be fine and beautifully thin.

  10. I've known a few horseback riders, particularly the one who jumped a lot and her legs had big-ish muscles but well toned and nice looking, and certainly not abnormally or even noticeably huge.  I'm not sure about the general rule tho, i just know that girl and a few others, but the others I didn't look too much at their legs. lol

  11. No because that is pretty much myth.

  12. u will notice a change in your legs i know mine r pretty muscular because i jump but u will have more stamina if ur legs r bigger do not worry about it people don't look at ur legs.

  13. They Don't, I'm A Horse Back Rider, I Don't Have Bigger Legs, Unless You Mean By Muscle, Then Yes We Do.

  14. Nah it shouldn't make your legs look big. It'll actually make you legs look a lot better (more toned not necessarily bigger)

  15. not necessarily bigger but they will get stronger

  16. I have been riding for a year and mine have stayed abiut the same

my thighs are a little but big because i have done gymnastics since i was 5 so i have alot of leg muscle and also alot of upper body strangth

  17. ur calfs and and legs mussles get bigger but stronger not big.. but not any that its going to looks huge... i have 3 equitation rider 13-17 who are tiny tiny little girls who have been riding with me for a long long while and they become stronger rider but ther legs are not huge at all.. there accualy like stick thin so dont worry about it at all

  19. Hello,

    Interesting question....

Well, my family trail rides and my two daughters don't have big legs by any means...  They are quite thin to be exact...and NO they don't have some big old ugly legs...LOL

They actually were size 1 and 5 pants...

HOPE that helps, they are strong and athletic, but NOT ripped like some old giant football player...

  20. Your legs will get bigger but they will be very toned and muscular. They won't get like massively big or anything but they will definitely bigger. Your legs will look really good though! :)

  21. haha, no, they won't.

Unless you do extreme exercises for years, like body builders, your muscles aren't going to show

  22. No. I don't believe so.

  23. its wont be an obvious growth.

more of a eventual thing. i have long slender legs and i ride horses. they are muscular but there not that big

  24. i used to ride. riding tones your legs so your legs will get more muscular. but they will look good and healthy.
