Or is that not allowed? Like for example if barbaro was alive would he have been allowed to defend his Derby title the next year? Please bare with me as I'm not a hardcore racing fan only watch once & a blue moon.

  1. actually, the derby can be run by 2 year olds like this years winner, so in a way a horse could be run twice, if its allowed, but i dont think it is. now about barbaro, he couldnt of even if it was allowed because he was already 3, and the age limit is 3 year olds.

  2. They don't get to race in it again!! The Kentucky Derby is only for three-year olds!! So are the Preakness and Belmont Stakes!!

  3. They only race three-year-olds. Do the math. There are no blue  moons in early May.

  5. No, it is not allowed.  Only horses that are 3 years old are eligible to run in the Kentucky Derby.

  6. No.  The Derby is for 3-year-olds, so this year's winner (or any other participants) will not be eligibile next year.

  7. 3yr olds only...
