Do host families exist for young adults wanting to explore Europe?

My husband and I are just wanting to explore Europe but would like to stay with a host family. We are really interested in Amsterdam and we are not students. Most of the stuff we found was for students only. We also looked into just backpacking but thought it would be a better expierence if we lived with a family.

    (the other one again: http://www.couchsurfing.com/)

If you do not like those, you can try to get a bed and breakfast through the tourist information of a smaller town, where the staff of the tourist information knows the people running BB places, they might be able to find you a place to stay where the hosts are interested in their guests. Sometimes you run into one like that, often it is breakfast and leave, so you need someone who knows their people.

There are other ways, but they always require that you are already part of the group organizing. Like if you are into scouting, you can use those contacts to arrange a meeting, or a stay, with people in scouting in the Netherlands.

Same goes for some sports teams that have contacts from international camps, church groups and so on.

Or if you have a rare hobby you might be able to meet people with the same hobby through internet, and later in person, but you will need to make the contact yourself, unless your hobby has an exchange program running. (I know some lace makers have exchanges and some art groups can help you with finding a home away from home, but only for long standing members of the groups.)
