  1. No, but look out for jackie-long-legs, they have the most venimous poison of any insect, thats why they have no teeth.

  2. YES!!!

    OMG! DONT GO NEAR THEM!!!!!

The worst has to be the Scottish Widow.....

    hold on...

    No !

Thats an advert from the telly

    Are you really that daft?

  3. ALL spiders bite and ALL have venom. It's just that UK spiders are not powerful to break human skin and their venom is not strong enough to cause humans problems.

  4. funloving t is spot on - all spiders bite.

It's just that all the ones you find here are too weak to pierce human skin. I caught a v. large house spider in my hands and I could feel it trying to bite me, but no harm was done. It couldn't get through my skin.

  5. yes but very very very rare - thank god

  6. maria.NO live in the uk all my life so far and there are NO house spiders that bite promised

  7. no and we only have 1 mildly poisonous snake called an adder........it can kill vey young or old but is so rare u would only encounter one in a forest...............i have lived in a rural area  for 10 years and only seen one

  8. No. I'm pretty sure

  9. Not that i know of. No.

  10. Apparently there are biters native to our climes.  Then you also need to consider the beasties that survive on imports.  I had to kill a horrific looking spider in a bunch of bananas I bought from the local Tesco.  Guess it was born after the bananas thawed out!

    [Updated]

BTW only three are implicated in puncturing skin and the house spider [Tegenaria species] very rarely bite and if they do it is painless according to the FAQ on the site below.

  11. I have never in my life heard of any UK native spider causing any problems. Be worried about more serious risks like wasps, hornets and bees.

  12. Not that I know of. I thought biting was only for spiders bigger than my fist.

    I'm worried now.

  13. I dont think so..But I am still scared of them though :(

  14. The big ones can, yes - but the venom won't really bother you. It's just like two very small pin-pricks.

The small ones may try, but their chompers are not sufficiently developed to pierce human skin.

  15. NO

    END OFF
